Lifeline Hike Participation Policy

Lifeline Hikes are free, public, structured pack walks designed to provide a safe, supportive environment for dogs and their humans. By attending, participants agree to the following expectations:

1. General Participation

  • Lifeline Hikes are open to the public and free to attend.

  • All dogs must remain leashed at all times.

  • Handlers must be physically capable of controlling their dog.

  • Each handler is responsible for their dog’s behavior, equipment, and wellbeing.

2. No On-Leash Dog Interactions

  • These are structured walks, not social meet-and-greets.

  • Dogs do not interact with each other during the hike.

  • No on-leash greetings, play, or nose-to-nose contact.

  • Space between dogs is expected and encouraged.

This structure allows reactive, shy, anxious, and social dogs alike to participate safely and comfortably.

3. Space & Movement

  • Participants should maintain appropriate distance between dogs.

  • Walking pace may vary; there is no pressure to keep up.

  • Handlers are encouraged to advocate for their dog’s space when needed.

4. Equipment & Safety

  • A secure leash, collar, or harness is required. Any leash type is permitted, as long as the dog remains under control at all times.

  • Dogs should be healthy enough for a group walk and free from contagious illness.

5. Handler Responsibility

  • Handlers must remain attentive to their dog at all times.

  • Treats, toys, and training tools are permitted as long as they do not disrupt the group.

  • Any dog showing escalating or unsafe behavior may be asked to increase distance or step away from the group.

6. Right to Ask Participants to Leave

  • Organizers reserve the right to ask any participant to leave if:

    • Safety guidelines are not followed

    • A dog is unable to remain under control

    • Behavior poses a risk to people or dogs

  • This is done to protect the safety and experience of the group as a whole.

7. Assumption of Risk

  • Participation is voluntary.

  • By attending, handlers acknowledge that working around other dogs carries inherent risks and agree to assume responsibility for their own dog.

Lifeline Hikes are built on mutual respect, safety, and understanding. Our goal is to create a space where all dogs and humans feel welcome, supported, and able to enjoy the walk
